رددتُ ضاحكة: لا تنسى أنها جاءت من (باريس) عاصمة الموضة!... لم يقتنع، أسكتتني بقولها: "الشام شامة على كل الدنيّة".
يقطع ذكرياتي صوت قذيفة، يا الله! كل هذه السنوات ولم أستطع إعتياد هذا الرعب! أحاول إظهار شجاعتي، أخرج إلى الشرقة وأنا أدثّر خوفي، أريد أن أشمّ أنفاس الربيع، ولكن صوتاً مرعباً ينتزع أمني.
سألته، أثناء تجوالنا في شوارع باريس، وأنا أتذكر كثرة مغامراته النسائية في بلادي: أما زلت تؤمن بمقولتك المأثورة: "امرأة واحدة لا تكفي الروائي؟"... أجابني: طبعاً المرأة هي فرصة حياة عليّ أن أنتهزها!... لكن هل تدري مدى معاناة المرأة التي تُخلص لك حين نتركها بحثاً عن علاقة، عفواً عن رواية جديدة؟... أنا أخلص للمرأة، حين أعيش معها قصة حب!... لكنك سرعان ما تخونها!... ليست خيانة، إنها صدق مع الذات، التي تنتعش بالحرية!... فكّرت: الحرية لا تعني الإنطلاق وراء الأهواء!... كنا بتعدد الزوجات!... وأصبحنا اليوم بتعدد العشيقات!...
