إضاءةٌ تكشف للباحثين سبيل فحص مرويات سيرة إمام أهل السير على الإطلاق، أبي بكر محمد بن إسحاق، وتُسهِّل سبر أسانيده وتقليب أصول نقله، وتبيّن أن في الرواة من اشتُهروا بنقل السيرة النبوية على سبيل الإفراد، ولا سبيل إلى تمييزهم إلا بذلك، إضافةً إلى تقديم فوائدَ أخرى تتجلى في سياق البحث. وقد جاء هذا الكتاب في مقدمة ضمّت ترجمة وافية للإمام ابن إسحاق، مع إيراد كلام أئمة الجرح والتعديل فيه، وتحرير وجه اختلافهم ومآله القاضي بتعيُّن عدالته وإمامته. تلاها فصلان، أما أولهما ففي بيان أحوال من روى عنهم ابن إسحاق، وأما الثاني ففي بيان محال رواة السيرة عن ابن إسحاق من العدالة والأهلية في النقل، ومراتب نسخهم.
