إذا كانت الحياة في مجمل قيمها تحتاج إلى أسئلة نقدية، فتصبح أسئلة الناس غاية في الكثرة والتنوع، وتطول الفلسفة من داخلها إلى آخر طرف من أطرافها، فتكون بذلك حدود النقد أوسع من حقول التفكير. فما على فاعل النقد إلا حرث هذه الحقول ونبش ما في الداخل وما في الأطراف. فالذهاب إلى ما في التخوم هو لفهم معنى الحياة لا لاختزالها، والبحث عن المعنى قارب فلسفة الحداثة إلى الاختزال، ليصبح السؤال: ما الذي تريده هذه الفلسفة؟ وما الذي تخفيه؟ وأنا أسأل: هل المعرفة حُبلّى بالحقيقة؟ أم الحقيقة حُبلّى بالمعرفة؟ وما هي وكيف شكل "المشحذة" التي لها الفعالية والارادة في تبيين ونبش المعنى؟ فإذا كان العقل قد يعجز والنقد غير وثوقي، ونقد النقد ما هو إلا حالة متقدمة في بنائية العملية النقدية، السؤال يُطرح: أليس وعي النقد هو الأعلى مرتبة في المواءمة بين الحقيقة والمعرفة وإرادة الحياة.
لقد احتلت نظرية المعرفة حيزاً كبيراً في تاريخ الفكر الفلسفي، وعندما يعجز الإنسان من الوصول إلى المعرفة يذهب للدفاع عن نفسه في إطار المنظومة ذاتها، لإيثار البحث عن مصدر العجز، أهو في إطار الإحساسات أو من ملكات العقل؟ فيغدو موضوع المعرفة ذاتها مرتكزاً على إشكالات تتمخّض في السؤال عن: ما هي المعرفة؟ من أين تُستمدّ المعرفة؟ ما هي أواليات المعرفة، العقل أم الحواس أم كلاهما معاً؟ أم أن هناك شيء آخر؟ وهذا ما يدرجه هذا الكتاب تحت ما هو متعالٍ على الاحساسات وعلى الادراكات، ألا وهو الوعيّ.
إن مشكلة الفلسفة المعاصرة اليوم هي في عجزها عن إعلان الحركة الجريئة التي تحتاجها للقيام بتقدم في مجال الوعي كمرشّح غير محتمل لتلك الخاصية الأساسية، وكظاهرة موضوعية لا تخص ما في الأدمغة فقط إنما تتجاوز ذلك للتمثلات الحسية، لتقوى على معالجة الموضوعات عالية التعقيد الأوسع من امبيريقية المناهج المعتمدة. فمنزلة الوعي هي في قلب كل كينونة فيزيائية عقيم تفسيرها، لجهة أن الحصاد الفيزيائي يقدّم لنا إنتاجاته الوضعية المتبدّلة بحسب "الزمكان"، وهذا ما ألفَ العلم نتائجه وشكّ بحصائله ليتوالف نتائج تحاكي جديد عصرها. فإن عجز العلم عن الخروج من دائرة زمكانه يلزمه مطرقة ميتافيزيقية لفك صدئ منجل الحصائل الفيزيائية.
