توفي بالقاهرة عام 1371هـ الموافق لسنة 1952م.
له كتب، منها:
الحسبة في الإسلام - رسالة مطبوعة،
وكتاب الوجيز في أصول الفقه - مطبوع في مجلدين،
وكتاب تفسير المراغي - مطبوع في ثمانية مجلدات،
وكتاب علوم البلاغة - طبعة الأزهر.

هدتنا التجارب- وهي نعم المعين- أثناء التعلم والتعليم أن كتاب "أوضح المسالك إلى ألفية ابن مالك" تأليف العلامة جمال الدين بن هشام الأنصاري خير كتاب ألف في علمي النحو والتصريف؛ لاختصاره، وضبط قواعده.
بيد أن الغلو في ذلك عاق كثيرًا من رواد مناهله عن فهم شواهده المقتضبة ومسائله المستغلقة؛ لهذا كتب عليه الشيخ خالد الأزهري شرحًا حافلًا وافيًا بإبراز أسراره للناظرين سماه (التصريح)، إلا أنه سلك طريقًا تطول على الطالبين واتبع منهجًا يخالف أصله، فلم يتسن لكثير من أهل العلم أن يتمتعوا بمكنوناته، وانصرفت النفوس عنه، وظلت الحاجة ماسة إلى من يقوم بتهذيب ذلك السفر الجليل، وجعله وافيًا بحاجات الراغبين.
ولذا رأينا أن نكون من السابقين إلى العمل في تهذيبه، وإتمام ما فيه من نقص في شاهد، أو غموض في مسألة، أو حذف لخلاف ربما لا يفيد، مع اجتناب التطويل رغبة في الانتفاع به، وتوفير الزمن على المشتغلين بعلم اللسان.
