الكتاب الذي أقدم له في المقدمة هو كتاب(حقائق الأخبار عن دول البحار) الجزء الثاني للميرالاي إسماعيل سرهنك، أحد قدامى ضباط الجيش المصري والبحرية حتى العقد الثاني من القرن العشرين.
ومع أن الجزء الثاني- الذي أقدم له- كان القصد منه أصلاً أن يغطي تاريخ مصر، فرنسا ، وبريطانيا. لكن وكما انتهى إليه الأمر، فقد كان على (إسماعيل سرهنك) أن يخصص الجزء كله لمصر وحدها.
غطت الصفحات المائتان والعشرون الأولى من الجزء الثاني "تاريخ مصر" حتى نهاية عصر(محمد علي). أما باقي الكتاب (364) صفحة فقد تعامل مع حوادث تصل إلى بداية القرن العشرين. وعلى هذا فإن الجزء الثاني من (حقائق الأخبار) لم يحقق الهدف الأصلي من كتابته.
