يحسب المشاركون في إعداد ورقة العمل السياسية التي أشرف عليها معهد جيمس بيكر الثالث للسياسة العامة-جامعة رايس، أنهم أدّوا قسطهم للعمل بتقديم اقتراحات وتوصيات للمعنيين في كل من الولايات المتحدة، "إسرائيل"، السلطة الفلسطينية والاتحاد الأوروبي، من أجل إنجاح خارطة الطريق التي أعلنها رئيس الإدارة الأمريكية جورج بوش في حزيران من العام 2002، والتي رفضها رئيس وزراء العدو شارون منذ الإعلان عنها بعد إبدائه "تحفظات" عديدة عليها تفقدها مضمونها بالتأكيد! ومع الإقرار بأن المشاركين بذلوا جهوداً كبيرة لتفادي ثغرات الخطط والمشاريع السابقة، وللاستفادة القصوى من "نجاحات" بوش في العراق وغيره، لدفع مسار التسوية من جديد بين كيان العدو والسلطة الفلسطينية على أساس رعاية أمريكية مباشرة وفاعلة لهذا المسار، فإن واقع الصراع الفلسطيني-"الإسرائيلي" بل والعربي-"الإسرائيلي"، يزداد تعقيداً حسبما تدل مؤشرات سياسية واستراتيجية عديدة، ولو أن ظواهر التطورات تؤكد وجود "إيجابيات" عديدة (ثبات الهدنة-معاداة الاتصالات الفلسطينية-"الإسرائيلية" وضبط أوضاع المناطق الفلسطينية)، وهي لم تكن لتحصل لولا الضغوط الأمريكية الهائلة على الطرف الفلسطيني تحديداً، وهي ضغوط ستستمر في الأسابيع والأشهر المقبلة من أجل دفع رئيس السلطة الفلسطيني لتطويق فصائل المقاومة وتجميد فعاليتها تمهيداً لتجريدها من سلاحها، إما سلماً عبر الانتخابات والعملية السلمية الشاملة، أو حرباً كما يأمل "الإسرائيليون" والأمريكيون سراً وعلناً!
