كتاب يدرس أحوال المسلمين في غرب أفريقيا فذكر تاريخهم منذ دخول الإسلام إليهم فذكر جغرافية البلاد وخصائصها ثم دخول الإسلام إلى تلك المناطق مع ذكر المنافذ الجغرافية التي دخل منها وأساليب انتشاره وأسباب نجاحه وتناول بإسهاب الدولة الإسلامية في غرب أفريقيا قبل مجيء الاستعمار الأوروبي وكذلك تكلم في بابه الأخير على الاستعمار والتنصير وغير ذلك من الأمور.
هذا وقد تم إتباع المنهج العلمي الاستقرائي، فتتبع أخبار غربي القارة من المصادر القديمة الموثوقة والمراجع والإحصائيات الحديثة بينها، وكذر ما اتفقت عليه دونما اختلفت فيه، وحاول عزو كل قول لصاحبه بأمانة علمية وتجرد في النقل. وقد عاد في هذا البحث إلى مراجع عدة بعضها مطبوع كالكتب والدوريات والآخر إلكتروني، أما لغات المراجع فكانت العربية والإنكليزية والفرنسية.
لقد قسم البحث إلى أربعة أبواب وملحق وفهرس أعلام وثبت بالمراجع. الباب الأول ويتألف من فصلين يسرد لمحة جغرافية عن إفريقيا والقسم الغربي منها، الباب الثاني يتألف من خمسة فصول ويتكلم عن دخول الإسلام إلى غرب إفريقيا مع الإشارة إلى المنافذ الجغرافية التي دخل منها وأساليب وطرق انتشاره وأسباب نجاحه في تلك المنطقة. الباب الثالث يعالج بإسهاب الدول الإسلامية في غرب إفريقيا قبل مجيء الاستعمار الأوروبي وذلك في خمسة فصول، فصل لكل دولة. أما الباب الرابع فيلقي الضوء على الاستعمار والتنصير والحركات الإصلاحية والجهادية الإسلامية في غرب إفريقيا بين القرنين 18 و19 الميلاديين وقد وضعت كلها في ثلاثة فصول. الملحق في هذا البحث يتناول بإيجاز كل دولة من دول غرب إفريقيا في العصر الحديث، أما فهرس الإعلام فهو عرض لسير وتراجم الأشخاص الذين ذكروا في البحث، وتنتهي الدراسة بلائحة المراجع.
