هذه أشتات لي كأني وجدت بينها وشيجة رحم فآثرت أن أجمعها، ولم أر بأساً أن أضم كلاً منها إلى أخواتها. لقد خشيت أن تتقطع السبل بين هذه وتلك فكان لي ما أردت. ولقد حملني نفر من أصحابي على أن أسعى هذا المسعى فأجعل من البعيد الذي قد يرى مختلفاً مؤتلفاً. لقد رأى هذا النفر من صحبي أن شيئاً مما لدى ينبغي أن يكون سفراً، ولا يمكن أن يتفرق في بطون المجلات. أقول: لو كان لي أن أقوم بهذا على نحو ما يفعل الأسانيد الفرنسيون فيكون لهم مما يدعونه لكان لي من ذلك جملة مجلدات. ولا أدري أيكون لي هذا، وقد أقبلت على الثمانين؟.
وأعود إليك صاحبي القارئ ألا تحسبني قاسياً متجبراً حين أبحت لنفسي هذا الصنيع فجمعت بين أشتات ما أراني قد جرت في العمل وتنكبت السبيل.
