تبدو أهمية هذا الكتاب فى انه يبين للقارئ كيف إقتحم على الإجتماع معاقل الميتافيزيقيا, وطرق الفلسفة بأوسع معانيها بقصد إنتزاعها وتجريدها من أصولها العقلية والميتافيزيقية, وذلك بالكشف عن مصادرها الإجتماعية, وإماطة اللثام من أصول تلك المسائل من وجهة النظر الإجتماعية, وتبدو أهميته كذلك فى أن مسائل الفلسفة كانت نقطة البدء وحجز الزاوية والمقدمة الضرورية لعلم الإجتماع.
ويستهدف هذا الكتاب تبيان أنه مهما تنابذ العلمان, وأدار واحد منهما ظهره للأخر فيما يصل إليه من نتائج وحلول متباعدة جاءت نتيجة إختلاف منهج كل منهما عن الأخر. فالفلسفة تستعين بمنهج النقد التحليلى, وعلم الإجتماع يستخدم منهج الملاحظة- وعلى ذلك فكل منهما يبعد عن الأخر, ومع ذلك فإن هذا التباعد لا يعنى القطيعة, حيث يظل إشتراكهما معاً قائماً طالما موضوعاتهما قيد البحث والنظر.
وقد إلتزم الباحث الموضوعية وإستعان بالمنهج التاريخى, الوصفى والمنهج المقارن, وينقسم الكتاب إلى أربعة أبواب, تنقسم إلى أحد عشر فضلاً, ويجمل الباب الأول عنواناً هو "الفلسفة وعلم الإجتماع", والباب الثانى "المنطق وعلاقته بعلم الإجتماع", وحمل الباب الثالث عنوان "نظرية المعرفة والمقولات", وتناول الباب الرابع موضوع "الأخلاق والدين".
