إذا نظرنا إلى القدر الذي ظهر غي العالم حاليا من المخطوطات الإسلامية، والذي تميز عن كل ما عداه من فكر الأمم المعاصرة له والغابرة عليه بالمركزية والاطراد، وجدنا أنه قد جمع كل ما صحح في منظور الإسلام من فضائل الحضارات التي سبقته.
وقد حث رسول الله "صلى الله عليه وسلم" أمته على طلب الحكمة والعلم عندما قال: "من سلك طريقاً يلتمس فيه علما سهل الله له به طريقا إلى الجنة، فأشتعل فيها جذوة البحث والتقصي في العم والحكمة، وهي شعلة لا تنطفئ وإن خبت، وشرارتها قابلة أبدا للتوهج في الوجود الإنساني بسرعة سريان النار في الهشيم.
وتمثل المخطوطات الإسلامية صورة لتوهج تلك الشعلة المقدسة شكلا وموضوعاً، فقد نشأت فنون الخط والتذهيب والتجليد العربي لتصبح قمماً بين منارات التراث الإنساني، وحوت موضوعاتها ما تبادر إلى قريحة الإنسان المسلم من حكمة أمته وغيرها من الأمم، لتصير خيوطاً من نسيج تراثه، إلا أن الوعي بتراث الحضارة الإسلامية رهن بما عرض منها للدراسة والاعتبار، والحق أن هناك مخطوطات جليلة القيمة قد طبعت ونشرت في حضارة الطباعة الحديثة بتحقيق وحواش وتذييل، إلا أن ذلك لم يتجاوز -حتى الآن- غيضاً من فيض المخطوطات الإسلامية التي لاتزال رهينة المتاحف والمجموعات الخاصة، إذ احتبست قيمتها العلمية إلى جوار قيمتها الأثرية.
وإننا من خلال هذا الكتيب نحاول أن نلقي الضوء على واحدة من أهم مجموعات المخطوطات الإسلامية في العالم، وهي مجموعة دار الكتب المصرية، لنتعرف معا كنوزها التي تنامت منذ إنشائها حتى الآن، ولنغوص بين صفحات عليها قرون من الزمان أضافت لأهميتها العلمية والأدبية والفنية أهمية تاريخية وتراثية يصعب أن تكرر على مدى الأزمان.
