في هذا الكتاب ، يكشف الدكتور إدريس إبن الضاوية " معالم المنهج النقدي " التي اعتمدها الإمام مالك لتمييز ما يُتعبَّدُ به من أنواع الأخبار ، مبيّناً مراتب الرواة ومنزلة مضامين أداء النماة وأهم معالم المسالك النقدية التي كانت معتمدة في مدينة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في باب الرواية ، وباب معنى الرواية ، إلى زمن تابعي التابعين، وأهمهم الإمام مالك الذي اجتمع له ما لم يجتمع لغيره من النقّاد المتبصرين ، واتفق له ما لم يتفق لسواه من الأئمة المتبوعين ، اتفق الأئمة على أنه حُجة صحيح الرواية ، وتقدمه في التفقه ، ومعاني الحديث ، والفتوى ، وصحة قواعد مذهبه الموروثة عن حفاظ العلم القائمين به في مدينة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ، من أبناء المهاجرين من قريش وغيرهم من الأنصار ، الذين قام حديثهم مقام الحُجّة باتفاق أهل الإتقان .
وعليه ، يوضح المؤلف منهج الإمام مالك في النقد دون مخالفة سنن المتقدمين ، ودون حّملِ الخطأ عن الرّاوين ، أو الأداء عمن ليس له بأهل من المسندين بأمور عديدة ، منها : " تحميل العلم المنتقى بطريق العرض المدني ، أحد أصح طرق التحمل عند أهل الحديث " ، " اشتراط الحمل عن المعروف ، الجامع لأوصاف القبول من رواية الفكر ، وأداء الخلفِ الذي لا يُحتمل " ، ( ... ) و منع غير الفقيه العالم بأصول الإستدلال ، وطرق الإستنباط ، من الخوض في الحديث " ... إلخ .
وعليه يشرح الكتاب منهج الإمام مالك في التحقق من صحة حديث الرواة من خلال ما يسميه المؤلف " المعارضة الإسنادية " و " التتبع لشعب الرواية المتحصلة ومقارنة بعضها ببعض " ، ومعرفة حالات النص إذا كان منسوخاً أم مخالفاً للقرآن الكريم ، أو السنن ... وغير ذلك من خطوات للحكم على الحديث وراويه …
