يُعدُّ كتاب «سفينة النجا»، أحدَ أشهر المتون المنثورة المختصَرة في الفقه الشافعيّ، لا سيّما في الديار الحضرمية، ويتناول هذا المتن قسم العبادات من الفقه الإسلامي، عدا الحج، وهو من المتون التي يحفظها الطلاب في أولى مراحل التفقه. وقد حظي هذا المتن بعنايةِ كثيرٍ من الفقهاء، فوضعوا عليه شروحاً وإيضاحات عدة. ومن الشروح المعاصرة لهذا الكتاب هذا الشرح الذي بين أيدينا: «غاية المنى شرح سفينة النجا»، من تأليف الأستاذ الفقيه المربّي الشيخ محمد بن علي بن محمد باعَطِية الدوعنيّ، حفظه الله تعالى، وهو عالمٌ بالفقه، ممارسٌ لتدريسه، له عددٌ من المؤلفات في موضوعاتٍ شرعيـةٍ مختلفة، والكتاب في الأصل دروسٌ ألقاها المؤلف على تلامذته في شرح «سفينة النجا»، ثم جمعها في الكتاب وتممها بذكر الأدلة والخلاف والنقول المعتبرة
