النزعة التأمليَّة سمة معروفة في شِعرنا العربي القديم جاهليّه وإسلاميّه، وهي تدل على مدى ما وصل إليه الفكر العربي في هذه الحقبة الزمنية أو تلك، على أنّ التأمّل في الشعر العربي القديم لم يكن ليشكِّل ظاهرة عامة حتى في العصر العباسي الذي اغتنت فيه الثقافة العربية لإمتزاجها بالثقافات الأعجمية من فارسية ويونانية وهندية، ولكن ما يمكن أن يشكِّل ظاهرة في هذا الباب الشعر الصوفي لأن الصوفيين فلسفتهم في الحياة ونظرتهم الخاصة إلى الخالق والمخلوقات، وهم يكوِّنون ما يُشبه مدرسة لها أفكارها وطريقة تعبيرها.
على أن هذه النزعة التأمليّة بدأت تأخذ طابعاً عاماً في الشعر العربي الرومنتي في العصر الحديث إذ انصبّ على تأمّل النّفس وعلاقتها بالحياة والطبيعة، وقد ظهر الشعر التأملّي لدى المهجريين في أميركا الشمالية والجنوبية بصورة خاصة وساعد على ذلك غربتهم المثلثه: غربتهم عن الوطن، وغربتهم في المجتمع الجديد، وغربتهم في عالم الزمان والمكان كشعراء رومنتيين يتوقون إلى عالم لا حدود له.
وتبدّت نزعة التأمُّل عند شعراء الشمال أكثر من تبديها عند شعراء الجنوب في المهجر الأميركي لإنطوائهم الشديد على أنفسهم نتيجة طغيان المادّة في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية أكثر من طغيانها في البرازيل والأرجنتين.
وعلى قدر طغيان المادة كان شعراء الرابطة القلمية يتعالون بأرواحهم إلى عالم الأحلام والأفكار، وقد جعل هؤلاء من التأمُّل مُنحنى لأشعارهم؛ وكان جبران خليل جبران وميخائيل نعيمة ونسيب عريضة أوّل من نزع هذا المنزع ثمّ تبعهم إيليا أبو ماضي ورشيد أيوب وندرة حدّاد.
ومن هنا، كان اختيارنا لشعراء الرابطة القلمية لأنهم يشكلون مدرسة في الأدب العربي لتقارب أفكارهم ومنازعهم.
