يتعرض هذا الكتاب لقضية هامة، ألا وهي الدلالات الفكرية والرمزية للفن الإسلامي في التصميم المعاصر، حيث يؤكد الكتاب على تجلي عناصر الفن الإسلامي في التصميم المعاصر، وذلك من خلال أربعة محاور أساسية للدراسة جمع فيها بين التنظير والتحليل لبعض أعمال التصميم المعاصر.
وقد استعرض المؤلف هذه المحاور على الترتيب بادئاً بالمحور الأول والمتمثل في الفن الإسلامي والتصميم المعاصر من حيث الخصوصية والهوية، ثم يليه المحور الثاني المتمثل في الدلالات الرمزية للفنون الإسلامية في التصميم المعاصر من حيث الوحدات الزخرفية والعناصر الفنية وتأثيرها.
أما المحور الثالث المتمثل في العلاقة ما بين الفن الإسلامي والفن التشكيلي المعاصر من حيث التأثر والتأثير، وفي المحور الرابع والأخير، يقدم الباحث تحليلاً لبعض النماذج الخاصة، ومن ضمنها التصميم الداخلي لفندق برمج العرب من حيث الهوية والخصوصية الإسلامية وإرتباط التصميم الداخلي مع التصميم المعماري الخارجي للمبنى.
