"عُمَرُ بْنْ لجأ" هو عُمَرُ بنُ الأشْعَثِ بنِ لَجَإٍ بن حُدَيْرَ بنِ مَصادِ بن ربَيْعَةً بن الحارثِ بن جُلْهُم ابنِ امرئ القيسِ بنِ ثَعْلَبةَ بنِ سَعْدٍ بنِ ذُهْلٍ بن تَيْم بنِ عَبْدٍ مَناةً بن أُدِّ بنِ طابِخَةً بنِ الياس ابنِ مُضَرَ بنِ نِزار.
ويعلل صاحب تاج العروس سبب غلبة اسمه بإسم جده، فيقول: "ولجأ، بلا لام، اسم رجلٍ هو جَدُّ عمر بن الأشعث التيميّ، الشاعر، لا والده، ووهم الجوهري، فجعله والداً له، إنما هو جدّه، وهذا الذي ذكره الجوهري هو الذي أطبق عليه أئمة الأنساب واللغة.
ويعد شاعرنا، أحد شعراء التيم الذين دخلوا دائرة الهجاء مع جرير والفرزدق والأخطل وغيرهم من الشعراء.
من هنا، يبدو أنه كان هناك نقائض بين جرير وابن لجإٍ، ولسنا ندعي أننا أول من كشف غبار هذه النقائض، التي كانت مجهولة عدا بعض المقاطيع والأراجيز المبثوثة هناك بين طيات الكتب، فخلال قراءتنا لمنتهى الطلب - عثرنا على عشر قصائد، من المطولات لعمر بن لجإٍ يهجو بها جريراً، وينقض قصائده، وهذا بدوره يجعل النقائص تأخذ صورة أوضح وأكمل بعد: نقائض جرير والفرزدق لأبي عبيدة، ونقائض جرير والأخطل - ونقائض عمر بن لجإٍ وجرير، من خلال صفحات هذا الديوان ومنتهى الطلب.
