(وقال واحد منهم، "لا تشغل بالك بوجودنا، عليك العثور على الدنانير، ثم ترفعها إلينا، ونحن نقوم بالواجب".
بين عجبي وبين رفضي لوجودهم صحت: "من أنتم؟! أنتم تقفون في أملاكي، ولا شأن لكم بأي دنانير أو مزامير!".
رأيت الثلاثة يغرقون من تلال الدنانير في زكائب، بعد أن تمتلئ الزكيبة الواحدة، يرفعها اثنان منهم فوق كتف الثالث، ذهبا بها إلى الخارج - عقلي شت، وأسرعت أصعد من الحفرة، تكالب علي الإثنين، فالثالث كان ما زال في الخارج؛ نجحت في جندلة واحد منهما، فسقط رأساً إلى الحفرة، أما الآخر، فكان يصرخ طالباً الممدد، فلما أمسكته من خناقه، فرفر، وساح، واستلقى على الأرض ميتاً، قلت لنفسي، وأنا في ضائقة شديدة، بين الدفاع عن دنانيري الذهبية، وبين ما جنت يداي، سأصير متهماً بقتل شخص، حين لو أثبتُ أنه لص، وحكم علي بالبراءة، فلن أرحم نفسي، وستظل جثته تلاحقني طول عمري، وربما دفعني الحمل الثقيل إلى قتل نفسي، قلت يا ولد يا فرج اهدأ، فلكل شدة منفذ وحل، كما يقول التنوخي في كتابه "الفرج بعد الشدة"، سبحان من جعلني بعد سنوات وسنوات من ارتكابي لجريمتي، أن ألتقي بالقول الشاق لنفسي، العاق لها من كل إثم، المهم رجع الشخص الثالث، فلما وجد زميليه الأول ميتاً، والثاني في الحفرة بلا حراك، صرخ صرخة حركت هواء الحجرة، وأثارت التراث حتى أنني أخذت في السعال، فلما سكت الرجل عن صرخته هذه، وجدته يسقط ميتاً بجانب الآخر الميت!!).
