وعندما تقلب صفحات التاريخ أيضا ستخرج عليك امرأة ربما تكون الأشهر بين ملكات التاريخ، وستفاجأ أيضا أنها كانت مؤسسة وملكة مدينة قرطاج، التى قدمت للعالم- فيما بعد- هانيبال العظيم، وهى لا تقل عنه عظمة أو شهرة، حتى إنها احتلت مكانة كبيرة فى كتب التاريخ فى الغرب، وكذلك أخذت حيزا كبيرا من ملاحم شعراء اليونان والرومان كما نرى فى الملحمة الخالدة والشهيرة لفرجيل، والمعروفة باسم "الإنياذة".. هذه الملكة الخالدة هى عليسة الأميرة الفينيقية ابنة (صور) التى وصلت سواحل تونس وأسست قرطاج.
وهكذا ترتبط مدينة قرطاج بشخصيتين تاريخيتين غيرتا مجرى التاريخ القديم.. عليسة ومن بعدها هانيبال.. وهما موضوع هذا الكتاب الذى يتتبع مسيرة كل منهما، منذ الولادة والنشأة، والعوامل التى أثرت فى تكوين شخصيتيهما، انتصاراتهما، إخفاقاتهما، وكيف اشتركا فى نفس النهاية المأساوية، حيث فضلا الموت على حياة الذل.
