هذه رسالة في السماع وفي وجوب كتابة المصحف بالرسم العثماني، كتبها الشيخ علي النوري إجابة لمتلمس تلميذه الشيخ عبد السلام بن عثمان التاجوري شيخ الطريقة السلامية بطرابلس (ليبيا) الذي بعث له بتأليفين في الموضوع وطلب منه إبداء رأيه كتابة فيهما هو وشيخه الشيخ علي الفرجاني القابسي التونسي. ويتبين منها أن المترجم لا يقول بالبدع المصاحبة للسماع.
وهو مؤلف هذه الرسالة كما ذكرنا هو الشيخ علي النوري، ولد بصفاقس سنة 1053/1644، حفظ بلده القرآن الكريم، وقرأ على الشيخ الصوفي أبي الحسن الكراي الوفائي نسباً وطريقة، ثم ارتحل إلى تونس وعمره أربعة عشر عاماً وقرأ بجامع الزيتونة، وعانى في المدة الأولى النقص وشظف العيش لأن والده كان فقيراً إلى أن تنبه له أحد أهل الخير والإحسان فتكفل بقوته مدة طلبه العلم بتونس.
ولما استكمل تحصيله بتونس أرسله بعض أهل الخير والصلاح إلى مصر لطلب العلم بالأزهر، وفيه لازم جماعة من الأعلام. وفي سنة 1078 تحصل على الإجازات من مشايخه، وهذا مؤذن بانتهاء الدراسة، ورجع إلى بلده خلال تلك السنة.
وعندما رجع إلى بلده صفاقس اتخذ من دار سكناه زاوية لتعليم القرآن وهي في الآن نفسه مدرسة لتدريس العلوم.
