"من أوائل ما تعيه ذاكرة الطفولة حلقة الذكر التي كان يقودها الشيخ سعد الدين. كان لهذه الحلقة غرفة كبيرة تسمى (الزاوية) وهي تقع أمام مدخل البيت يفصلها عنه جدار خشبي يغلق بابه فتنفصل الزاوية عن بقية الغرف وكانت الأنوار تشعشع في الغرفة الزاوية ويتوهج معها منقل الفحم بالنار والدفء وتسخين القهوة المرة, حيث كانت تحمص في النهار فتفوح رائحتها الحريفة في البيت كله ثم تدق في جرن خشبي يرن بضربات منتظمة يتحول معها تحضير القهوة الى حفلة موسيقية إيقاعية. فإذا أقبل المساء أغلق الباب الخشبي وفتح باب البيت على مصراعيه وبدأ الرجال بالتوافد. فإذا اكتمل عددهم, بدأت حلقة الذكر".
