هذا الكتاب دراسةٌ لسانيَّةٌ تتخذ الخطابَ الشعريَّ حقلاً لها، وتلقي الضوءَ على عنصر جوهري من عناصر هذا الخطاب وهو الصُّورةُ الشعريَّة، وتحدِّدُ مكوِّناً من مكونات الصُّورة وهو الزَّمَن؛ فتدرس بنياته اللغويةَ وعلاقاته ودلالته وإحالاته، على المستويات التركيبية والدلالية والتداوليةِ، بحثاً عن إسهاماتِ الزَّمَن (زمن الصُّورة الشعرية) في تحقيقِ إنسجام الخطاب الشعري، وتحقيق وظائفِهِ الخطابيَّةِ، وعلى رأسها الوظيفةُ الشعرية، متخذةً الخطابَ الشعريَّ لدى الشاعر اليمنيِّ عبد الله البردوني أنموذجاً للتطبيق.
وقد حاولنا فيها أن نقدِّمَ إضافةً مهمةً وجديدةً في النظرِ إلى الإستعارة والمجازِ من ناحية الزَّمَن، فتخدمُ بذلك علماءَ الشعرية، ومن جِهَة أخرى تضيفُ بها إلى أدبياتِ اللسانياتِ الزَّمَنيَة موجهات أو وجهاً زَمنيَّاً تُمكِن مراعاتُهُ في أثناءِ الحديث عن النّسَقِ الزمنيِّ في اللغة العربية، ألا وهو الموجِّهُ المجازيُّ أو التصويريُّ، وهو يخدمُ فوقَ كل ذلك البحثَ اللسانيَّ للغة العربية.
إن الصُّورة الشعريةَ غالباً هي التي تمنح الأجزاءَ الأخرى في النص نظامَ تماسكِها، وتخلق لها منطقاً جديداً تنتظم فيه، ومن ثم فإن أزمنَتَها هي التي تمنحُ أزمنةَ النصِّ إحالاتها، وتماسكَها النحويَّ والمعجميَّ، وتؤولها تأويلاً منزاحاً عن تأويلها الوضعي؛ لذا رأينا أن دراسةَ قواعدِ إنسجامِ الزَّمَن الشعري ينبغي ان تنطَلِقَ من دراسِة أزمنةِ الصُّورة.
