أفضى التطور التكنولوجي الذي شهده ميدان الإتصال أثناء السنوات الأخيرة إلى ظهور أنماط إتصالية جديد ومبتكرة أسهمت في التأسيس لتغيير بنيوي على آلية وهيكلية سريان الإتصال وتوصيف عناصره الأساسية والثانوية والعلاقات التبادلية بينها.
ويرد في سياق هذا الكتاب تناول المحاور الرئيسة والتفصيلية لما يتصل بموضوع الإعلام الجديد، حيث تناول الإنترنت ونشأته وتطوره والجوانب الإتصالية والخدماتية المرتبطة بعمله، كما جرى تناول مفهوم الإعلام الجديد عبر ما ورد من تعريفات وفقاً للمدارس العلمية الغربية والشرقية وكذلك إستعراض المداخل النظرية لفهم الإعلام الجديد على وفق طروحات كبار الباحثين والمنظرين المتخصصين في هذا الميدان.
كما تم تناول وسائل ومواقع الإعلام الجديد على مستوى الأنواع والخصائص التكنولوجية والفنية فضلاً عن الجوانب الإتصالية، ولم يتم إغفال مسعى إيراد وتأسيس مقارنة علمية بين الإتصال على وفق معطيات وسائل الإعلام التقليدية ووسائل الإعلام الجديد وإيضاح جوانب الإرتباط والتداخل والفرز بين المفاهيم.
كما وردت الإشارة إلى الجوانب القانونية وسياسة الخصوصية التي ترتبط بالنشاط الإتصالي لوسائل الإعلام الجديد، وأخيراً جرى تناول محور خاص بالآثار المتوقعة للإستخدام المفرط للوسائل تلك أو كما يوصف بالإدمان على الإنترنت ووسائله وما ينتج عن ذلك من آثار نفسية وإجتماعية.
وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن هذا الكتاب يمثل محاولة أكاديمية متواضعة للولوج إلى هذا الميدان الإعلامي الجديد والفريد ومحاولة لتوثيق حيثياته ومعطياته وإشكالية وصوره فضلاً عن مناقشة ما يرتبط به من عوامل ومتغيرات بطريقة علمية تسمح للدارسين والباحثين والمهتمين بالإطلاع على الصورة عن قرب وبطريقة واضحة ومبسطة.
