إن "زيلدا" ملكة جمال "ألاباما" سابقاً والأديبة الشابة وابنة حاكم الولاية وحفيدة السيناتور تعري عبر يومياتها حقيقة الأديب الأمريكي الشهير وتسرد تفاصيل اضطهاده لها وتواجه نهايتها بين جدران مصحة أمراض عقلية لتموت قبل أن تبلغ الخمسين من العمر إن الرواية تكاد تكون أنشودة رئائية على لسان امرأة طحنها غرامها بأديب مشهور نرجسي استطاع تدميرها عاطفياً والتهامها إبداعياً بالسطو على بعض نصوصها أما "جيل لوروا" فيصف روايته بأنها في جوهرها انتقام "زيلدا" من "فينزجيرالد" الذي دمرها تماماً
