هذه دراسة أعدها نجيب محمد البهبيتى عن الشاعر أبي تمام الطائي، وذلك في ستة أبواب، الباب الأول: كان دراسة مطولة لتاريخ طيء في الجاهلية والإسلام، قصد بها إلى أمور: أولها عقد الصلة بين ما اشتبه في نسب أبي تمام على بعض المستشرقين ونقله عنهم بعض من يدعو بدعوتهم، وبين تاريخ طيء في الجاهلية والإسلام عقداً يمكن به إلقاء النور على كثير مما عمى عليهم، وأرتج في وجوههم بابه. ثانيها: تحليل العناصر التي يتكون منها تاريخ طيء وأدب طيء واستخلاص هذه كلها حتى تكون معايير أعرض عليها شعر أبي تمام. وثالثها: استخلاص التاريخ من الأخبار المتناقلة عن الجاهلية. وختمت هذا البابا باستقراء ما جاء في نسب أبي تمام، فعرضته على مقاييس التحقيق عرضاً مستفيضاً وخلصت منه إلى اعتقاد جازم بطائية أبي تمام.
والباب الثاني: جاء تصويراً لخلقة أبي تمام وصفاته، وللحديث على أسرته. والباب الثالث: وهو نقله إلى الدراسة الفنية لشعر أبي تمام، حيث تم المزاوجة بين حياة أبي تمام وحياة شعره. وعالج الباب الرابع: المذاهب التي تداولت على الشعر العربي قديمه وحديثه، وانقسام شعرائه إلى قدماء ومحدثين، وفرق ما بين أولئك وهؤلاء، واستقرار التسمية حتى أصبحت اصطلاحاً.
واهتم الباب الخامس بمقاربة فن أبي تمام الشعري من حيث إنسانيته، وما يشيع فيه من اندفاع إلى الحب، أو اندفاع إلى الحقد، أو بعبارة أخرى من بلوغ في تذوق الحياة في الأطراف وبينت ما كان لعصره، عصر العصبيات العنصرية، من أثر في سهولة ذلك على النفس. وجاء الباب السادس: تكملة للدراسة الفنية لشعر أبي تمام. حيث تم التحدث فيه عن الصورة في شعر أبي تمام، واللفظ، والجملة، والحكمة، وتعلق فن أبي تمام بالحقيقة وما شابه ذلك.
