يضم هذا الكتاب بين طياته قصائد كتبت بلغة تبدو من حيث استعمال الألفاظ والتراكيب لغة معاصرة بل حافلة باستعمالات واصطلاحات لم تكن شائعة فترة حياة المؤلف مثل ما أورد عن مصطلح (الخليج العربي) وهو استعمال لم يكن شائعاً قبل قيام الانقلاب (المصري) عام 1371.
تتألف المادة التي اشتمل عليها الكتاب في الأصل من عدد محدود من التراجم الأقل منهم معروف وأكثرهم غير مشهور بل ربما لم يسمع به أحد ومع ذلك يتحدث عن مزايا المعروفين ومزايا غير المشهورين على حد سواء ويلحق بترجمة كل واحد ممن ذكرهم شعراً يعزوه وينسبه إليه!! وكما تترك كل حادثة بصماتها، ويترك كل تزوير أدلته، فكذلك جاءت كل الأشعار والقصائد المنسوبة إلى كل واحد من أولئك وكأنها تصدر من معين واحد فهي ذات ألفاظ واحدة، وقاموس شعري متوحد، وأمام هذا الكتاب المليء بالأخطاء والمزاعم والمغالطات، رأينا من الصواب خدمة للباحثين وحماية للفكر أن يتم التعليق على مواطن الخطأ في هذا الكتاب (المنشور)، وأن يوضح بالدليل زيف ما ادعاه كاتبه بالنسبة للقضايا التاريخية والاجتماعية.
أما القسم الثاني من هذا الكتاب المفترى على شعيب الدوسري، مصحوباً بدراسة علمية لمصادره المزعومة، والأهداف الداعية إلى تأليفه وأهم الدلائل المشيرة إلى اختلافه للأخبار، مع توضيح لأساليبه التي اتبعها من أجل تحقيق غاياته، وبيان لموقف الباحثين المدققين منه.
وإلى جانب تلك الدراسة تم تقسيم الكتاب إلى قسمين: تضمن القسم الأول متن الكتاب مع التعليق عليه، وتفنيد المزاعم والأخطاء الواردة فيه، وضم القسم الثاني حواشي الكتاب مصحوبة بالتعقيب عليها.
