ترجمنا هذا الكتاب إلى اللغة العربية لأمرين أولهما كون العصر الذي تناول صاحبه فيه الكلام عليه عظيم الخطر شديد الاتصال بمصرنا الذي نعيش فيه قليل المصادر العربية مع ذلك قلة يضيق لها صدر الباحث المحب للإطلاع وثانيهما كون الكتاب حافلاً بالمعلومات التاريخية منسق هذه المعلومات تنسيقاً علمياً لا نعرف له مثيلاً في كتب التاريخ العربية.
ولقد كان مذهبنا في الترجمة التقيد الشديد بالأصل فلم نشذ عنه إلا في إسم الكتاب وإلا في حواش أضفناها من عندنا فأما الإسم فلم نترجم الأصل الإنجليزي وإنما انتزعنا بدله من نفس الكتاب إسماً آخر أخف على السمع وأقرب للمعنى فسميناه "تاريخ المسألة المصرية من 1875 إلى 1910" وأما الحواشي التي آتينا بها من عندنا فهي ما اقتضاه الموضوع من شرح اصطلاح مالي غريب أو ايضاح إشارة تاريخية غامضة أو ترجمة علم من الأعلام قد يخفى على أوساط القراء هذا وقد عنينا بإيراد النصوص العربية الأصلية لما ساقه المؤلف في كتابه مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية وقد كلفنا ذلك شيئاً من العناء في مراجعة السجلات الرسمية والصحف القديمة.
