تناولت الدراسة التي بين أيدينا بعنوان "الفتنة الأندلسية" فترة من تاريخ الأندلس تعد بحق من أهم ما مرت به البلاد، وعانت منه في تاريخها السياسي، حيث شهدت فيها الأندلس، زمناً صعباً تفجرت فيه الأزمات، وانقلبت الموازين، وتغيرت الخارطة السياسية للبلاد، بشكل لم تعهده من قبل، مما اعجز ولاة الأمور عن إدارة الدولة والمجتمع كما ينبغي، تلك الفترة هي الواقعة بين سقوط الدولة العامرية سنة (399هــ/ 1009م) وإلغاء الخلافة سنة (422هــ/ 1031م).
لقد كان إنهيار الدولة العامرية، وإضطراب أمر الخلافة في القرن الخامس للهجرة/ الحادي عشر للميلاد، يعني تغيراً جذرياً ليس في تاريخ العاصمة قرطبة فحسب، بل في بنية الدولة الأندلسية برمتها، والشعب الأندلسي بكامله، فضلاً عن إرتباط هذه الأحداث بالتطور التاريخي العام للأندلس، والذي أدى فيما بعد إلى إنهيار الوحدة السياسية للبلاد، وقيام ما يسمى بدويلات الطوائف، وذلك ما يستحق البحث والدراسة سيما وإن تلك الفترة الزمنية فصلت بين ماض مجيد معلوم، وحاضر قلق في معطياته ومستقبل مجهول العواقب، الأمر الذي انعكس على مرافق الحياة العامة في الأندلس، على مدى ربع قرن من الزمان تقريباً، مما أدى إلى تكوين جيل ممتاز من المفكرين والأدباء والساسة، يختلف في همومه وتطلعاته عن الأجيال السابقة، حتى سماه أحد الباحثين بــ"جيل الفتنة".
ولعدم وجود دراسة شاملة وجامعة تناولت الفتنة الأندلسية كما تستحق، حاولت هذه الدراسة أن تبحث جوانب الفتنة بما أدى إليها من أسباب ووقائع وما نتج عنها من إفرازات.
