يقول ابن الفارض"من لم يفقه الهوي فهو في جهل "ولعله كان صادقا إلي أبعد الحدود في هذا ..فالعشق والهوي ليس مجرد شعور يجهل وإنما هو شعور إذا ما جهله المرء فقد جعل الحياة بأسرها هذا الهوي الذي عرفته الشعوب علي اختلافها وانتشارها في أقطاب الأرض فاتفقت عليه فكان منه العذري والأفلاطوني وفيه تدله الصوفية والشعراء والعشاق فكان كل يبكي علي ليلاه وفي حضارة العرب وبواديهم هام كثير من الشعراء العشاق حتي وصلوا إلي حافة الجنون وآثروا الموت علي التنكر لهوي المحبوب ونسيانه فكتبت قصصهم علي صفحات التاريخ وقدر لها الخلود في قلوب من تبعهم علي مر الأجيال ومن هؤلاء أختار الدكاترة "زكي مبارك"لكتابة عشاقا ثلاثة جميل وكثير والعباس فكتب عنهم وعن عشقهم وشعرهم الذي أخرجه لهيب وجدانهم فلم يكن سوي الصدق والإخلاص مجسدا ومنزها عن كل لهو وهزلز
