يشتد الجدل في صفوف الدعاة في الأرض بين من يتبنى القوة سبيلاً وحيداً للتمكين على اختلاف أنواعها، وبين من يرى التربية وحدها كافية لانتقال المجتمع إلى الإسلام، وهو الذى يتبنى الإسلام بعد ذلك، وتوضع البرامج والمناهج والخطط على ضوء هذه القناعات والمنطلقات.
والملاحظ كذلك أن جميع الفرقاء العاملين لهذا الدين يعتمدون لإثبات قناعاتهم النص القرآنى، والحديث النبوي، والسيرة النبوية، وكل يدلى بحجته على الآخرين.
لكن المؤلم في هذه الساحة، هو المغالاة في القناعات لدى هؤلاء الإخوة بحيث يحكم كل فريق على الفريق الآخر بالخروج على الدين أو على بعض أحكامه على الأقل، وبذلك تتسع الهوة، وتتحول المعركة أحياناً داخل صف الدعاة عوضاً عن أن تكون مع أعداء الدعوة.
ومن أجل هذا كله كان لابد لهذا الكتاب أن يصدر، فهو يحاول أن يصل إلى المنهج من خلال استقراء أحداث السيرة، والمسير خلفها ليرصد معالم هذا المنهج، لا التقدم أمامها أو التحوير فيها لتوافق فهماً أو قناعة أو خطا من خطوط السير، وحسبى إن تمكنت من ذلك أن أكون حققت الهدف من هذا الكتاب.
ولا أدعى بعدها أن على الدعاة أن يعلنوا استسلامهم لهذا المنهج، فاختلاف الزمن والظروف العامة.
