أثرت المتغيرات السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية بطرق مباشرة وأخرى غير مباشرة على سياسة وإنتاج المسرح المصري في الفترة المتحدة بين عام (1960-1975م)، وعلى تقنياته وطرق العمل فيه، كما أثرت بدورها على الجماهير المشاهدة للفن المسرحي، نتيجة تغير الموازين الاجتماعية صعوداً وثباتاً وانخفاضاً واضطراباً. وهذا ما دفع الدكتور "عثمان عبد المعطي عثمان" لدراسة علاقة التقنيات المسرحية بتغيرات المجتمع الحصري وهدفه التعريف بموقف التغير الاجتماعي داخل هذه الفترة. ومدى ـاثر المسرح بالموقف الاجتماعي المتغير هو الآخر أساسً منذ الثورة المصرية.
كما يهدف إلى تحليل الثوابت والمتغيرات في المسرح من ناحية، وفي المجتمع الذي عكس على المسرح عبر التغير الجذري في البناء التحتي للمجتمع المصري من ناحية أخرى. وقد أدى ذلك إلى أن يتعرض الكاتب لتطور الإيديولوجية الرسمية في مصر (الديمقراطية، الاشتراكية) ومدى استمرارها أو اهتزازها، متتبعاً في ذلك التغير الفني الذي طرأ فجأة على المسرح المصري في سنوات الانفتاح، ومقتضياً أثر انزواء المسرح الثقافي ومولد ظاهرة تضخم المسرح التجاري الاستهلاكي، واستمراريتها واتساعها في محاولة لرصد العلاقة الدياليكتيكية بين ظاهرة التغير الاجتماعي للمجتمع المصري وعلاقتها بظاهرة أو تدهور حالة المسرح المصري تقنيات ووسائل.
