إن القيام بالحج يعتبر أجل من الحرب المقدسة ولهذا يعد كل حاج مجاهداً في سبيل الله، فإذا أدركته المنون في حجه فهو في عداد الشهداء ونال جزاء الأبرار وأن هذه الفكرة عن الحرب المقدسة توصلنا بشمل طبيعي إلى فكرة الوفاة وأن الحج ليمارس أفكاراً ملائمة لهذه الأخيرة وأن لباس الإحرام يثير في الخاطر والنظر رداء الكفن الذي سنلبسه كلنا يوما ما وهو لباس واحد للجميع وأن التلبية التي نرددها أثناء طوافنا كانت دعاء يدعوه الرسول محمد "صل الله عليه وسلم" سبعين مرة لأرواح شهداء أحد، وكذلك "عرفة" تثيرا أمرا للموتى في يوم الحشر، إننا حين نسافر بسبيل الحج نخلف وراءنا كل شاغل يشغلنا في هذه الحياة الدنيا وشأننا بذلك كشأننا حين نجتاز باب الموت من الدنيا إلى الأخرة ونهجر وراءنا كل رابط جسماني، وهذه المشابهة الروحية القياسية راسخة في الشعور في السودان بحيث تحمل كل واحد يريد الحج أن يقوم بعمل مأدبة يدعو إليها والديه وأصدقائه وكأنه يدعوهم إلى مأدب الحزن يعد الموت منقيا ضميره وقارئاً الفاتحة القرآنية بنية الشهادة.
