موسى بن ميمون يهودي الأصل إلا أنه عد من المؤرخين المسلمين وقد ولد بقرطبة ومات بالقاهرة ثم نقلت رفاته لقرطبة مرة أخرى، وقد تلقى بن ميمون العلم على يد علماء أساتذة مسلمين، وكان من أهم علومه ما أخذه عنهم ونقله إلى دينه وإلى قومه، فنحن كمسلمون أهملنا البحث في تاريخ الديانات الأخرى ومن ثم لا نعرف تماما ما تأثير الدين الإسلامي والحضارة الإسلامية في الحضارات الأخرى فإن كل الحضارات قد دخلت إلى الإسلام وانصهرت فيه وانطبعت بطابعه، فأصبحت الحضارة الإسلامية حضارة عالمية جامعة فريدة في العصور الوسطى.
ولقد ألف ابن ميمون العديد من الكتب منها كتاب دلالة الحائرين، والذي يناقش فيه عدة مسائل أهمها برهنته على وجود الله وأننا لا نستطيع أن ندرك إلا آنيته فقط لا ماهيته، ومن المسائل المهمة أيضا أنه يناقش فيه آراء الناس في قدم العالم وحدوثه عند كل من اعتقد أن ثم إلها موجودا.
