يتميز كتاب منهاج البلغاء من بين كتب علمائنا بالغموض الشديد فى كثير من أبوابه, وواجبنا نحو أجيالنا أن نقرب لهم حقائق العلم, وعلى هذا قام هذا الكتاب فاستخلص أفكار حازم وقربها وأكثر من كتبوا عن حازم قرؤوا عنه ولم يقروه بسبب هذا الغموض, وقد تتبع هذا الكتاب أبواب حازم بابا بابا ومسألة مسألة وشرحها وبين أسباب غموض لغة حازم وقد عرض لطرائق اجتلاب المعانى, والمعانى الأصول والمعانى التوابع, والصور الذهنية الحاصلة من تأليف الكلام, واختلاف هيآت المعانى وكيفياتها, والأحوال التى تعرض للمعانى, والمطالع والمقاطع وما يجب فيهما, والمعانى الكلية والمعانى الشخصية, وأنحاء الخطاب والمنازع حازم لمنهجه وتراجع حازم عن هذا المنهج, ومصادر القوانين البلاغية كما يراها حازم زمعانى التخييل والمحاكاه وأنه لا يخرج عن تجويد العبارة. وفى هذا الكتاب تلخيص ابن رشد لكتاب الشعر لأرسطو وقد حصر تلخيصه فى القوانين المشتركة بين البلاغتين, وقد بين الكتاب أن أكثر مباحث حازم فى أبواب البلاغة التى ذكر ابن سينا أنها فى شعر العرب وليست فى شعر اليونان, وأن الأثر الأكبر فى حازم لابن سنان الخفاجى ثم عرض الكتاب للمسائل البلاغية التى قالوا إنها من كتاب الشعر لأرسطو وبين مصدرها فى تراثنا القديم.
