كان كتاب (الجُمان في تشبيهات القرآن) موضع اهتمام العلماء من قديم، لوقوفه عند موضوع التشبيه في القرآن الكريم على منهج جمع فيه المؤلف بين استيفاء التفسير، والاتساع في التمثيل والاستشهاد بأشعار العرب، والاستطراد إلى مسائل ومواقف مختلفة متعددة الجوانب من وجوه الثقافة والمعرفة؛ وهو أوّل كتاب يعنى بـ(التشبيه) في كتاب الله الكريم، ويستوفي الكلام عليه ويستطرد بالكلام إلى إعجاز القرآن، واقفاً وقفات خاصّة عند هذه الزاوية البلاغية.
وقد اعتمد المؤلفون في مجال علوم القرآن، وعلوم البلاغة على كتاب الجمان هذا، ونقلوا عنه، وأولوه أهمية خاصّة. وتدل النسختان الباقيتان المعروفتان من مخطوطات الكتاب على أن ابن ناقيا-مؤلف الكتاب-كان يُقرئُه، وأن إقراءه كان مهمة تولاها نفرٌ من العلماء بعد زمان المؤلف أجيالاً متوالية. ولقي الكتاب عناية في العصر الحديث، فقد صوّرته جامعة الدول العربية عن نسخة محفوظة في مكتبة الأسكوريال. وهي النسخة التي اعتمد عليها محققو كتاب (الجُمان) في طبعاته الثلاث.
