يضم الكتاب شرحاً لمنظومة "منية المريد" التي نظمها أحد أقطاب التجانية أبو العباس أحمد التجاني ابن العلامة "بابا الشنجيطي"، حيث وضع الشارح محمد العربي التجاني تعليقاً على تلك المنظومة جاء بمثابة التتمة والتكملة لكلماتها الجامعة المفيدة، وقبل شروع الشارح في الكلام عليها استهلها بمقدمة رتب فيها الكلام على سبعة مطالب تشتمل على ما لا بد فيه من طريق الإرادة لكل سائل وطالب.
المطلب الأول في بيان منشأ علوم الطريق، وبعض ما اختص به أهلها من أسرار الأذواق والتحقيق. المطلب الثاني: في بعض ما يشير إلى حقيقة الأدب على جبهة الأجيال، وبيان منشئة ومكانته من طريق أهل الكمال، المطلب الثالث: في الإشارة إلى نبذة من آداب العترة العليا، وبعض ما أنصف به من ذلك أهل المراتب السنية، المطلب الرابع: في بعض ما يختص بالمزيد من آداب الصحبة والأخوة، وبيان ما يلزمه في ذلك من الوفاء وكمال الفتوة، المطلب الخامس: في بيان فضيلة حُسن الاستماع وبعض ما يختص به من الآداب الموصلة بفضل الله تعالى إلى طريق الفهم وكمال الانتفاع، المطلب السادس: في بيان اختلاف أولياء تعالى في الطرائق والمذاهب والإثارة إلى أن نشأ ذلك هو تباين الأذواق والمشارب، المطلب السابع: في وجه تسمية هذه الطريقة لسَنِيّة بالأحمدية والمحمدية والإبراهيمية الحنفية...
