يتكون الكتاب من ستة أبواب، في الباب الأول، يقدم المؤلف خلاصة وافية لما يمكن وصفه بعلم الطفيليات العام، الذي يتضمن، فيما يتضمن، العلاقات البيولوجية متباينة الصور والدرجات والطبائع والآثار بين الطفيليات وعوائلها، ثم يتبع المؤلف ذلك بباب من الحيوانات الأولية الطفيلية، وثالث من الديدان، ورابع من الرخويات، وخامس من المفصليات، ثم يتناول الفصل السادس والأخير لطفيليات الأسماك بعامة.
ويتبع المؤلف في كل من هذه الأبواب نظاماً منهجياً دقيقاً، يورد فيه الطفيليات المعنية، مصنفة ومحددة بأسمائها العلمية اللاتينية، وصفاتها الأساسية، ودورات حياتها، وعلاقاتها بعوائلها المختلفة، وحدود انتشارها، ثم بعلاج الأمراض المتسببة عنها وسبل مقاومتها، هذا فضلاً على أن الكتاب زاخر بالرسوم التخطيطية الممتازة التي تزيد المتن وضوحاً وبياناً.
