لئن كان معظم هذا الكتاب يدور حول منطقة الشرق الأوسط عامة، والدولة المصرية خاصة، فإن مرد ذلك إلى بضعة عوامل، منها: أن هدف هذا الكتاب كهدف كلية إدارة الأعمال -في أية جامعة- عندما تقوم بتدريس تاريخ إحدى الشركات الناجحة لطلابها، كمثل حي على مادة إدارة الأعمال، ومنها أنه قد أتاح للمؤلف الفرصة تمضية زمن لا بأس به، يمارس كثيراً من تلك الأدوار المستترة بصفة وسيطاً طارئاً لن يكون بين المدعوين ثانية، وهذا هو ما يسمى بديبلوماسية ما وراء الكواليس، ولهذا النوع من اليدبلوماسية أثر كبير، ظهر في سلوك حكام تلك المنطقة في علاقتهم بالغرب، وعلاقات الغرب معهم، والذي كان يبدو لأول وهلة، أنه سلوك يمجه الذوق السليم ويرفضه المنطق الصحيح، ويبدو في ظاهرة خطوط متقاطعة متباعدة لا يتوازى منها إثنان.
وهو يعتبر هذا الكتاب نموضجاً حياً للتاريخ يهدف إلى إزاحة الستار عن حقيقة ارتباطات الدول الكبرى بالدول المحدودة الإمكانيات التي نجحت أحياناً في إحراز نصر ديبوماسي على بعض الدول الكبرى، وتمكنت مع الأيام من ممارسة دور أكبر من طاقاتها في السياسة العالمية وأوضح مثال على هذا دور عبد الناصر رئيس الجمهورية المصرية.
وليس هذا الكتاب أكثر من مجهود شخصي، استعام لإخراجه المؤلف بالكثيرين من أصدقائه المنخرطين في السلك الدبلوماسي أو أجهزة المخابرات لدول عديدة حتى يتأكد من بعض منسياته.
