كان الأستاذ فتح الله كولن هو العقل المؤسس لحركة "الخدمة"، وتعد الخدمة من العوامل الأساسية التي سترقى بالأمة التركية إلى مسرح التاريخ في القريب المنظور، فقد اضطلعت بدور بارز في الإنجازات التي حققتها الأمة التركية في القرن المنصرم، بعد أن منيت بالهزيمة والفرقة في آخر قرنين ونصف، وكل من له دراية بأيسر مبادئ علم الاجتماع أو من له علم- ولو يسيرًا- عن حركة تاريخ الحضارة، سرعان ما يدرك أن حركة الخدمة التي انتشرت على مستوى العالم ستسهم في اكتساب القرن الحادي والعشرين هوية جديدة؛ فبات مهمًا للغاية التعرف على العقل المؤسس لهذه الحركة لنعرفه جيدًا وندرك مكانته لَطالما كان الأستاذ فتح الله كولن- ولا يزال- موضوعَ كثير من الدراسات والأبحاث في عدد كبير من الجامعات العريقة في أنحاء العالم كافة، وما أكثر المؤتمرات التي بحثت اتجاهاته المتعددة؛ وبعض هذه الدراسات منشور متداول لكن ما أقل الدراسات التي عنيت بسيرته الذاتية وكأن السبب أن محور اهتمامه كان يتمركز حول تقديم الخدمات لا حول شخصه هو، فهو لا يحبذ أن يتحدث عنه أحد، بل يرى أن ما ينفق من الأوقات في دراسات تتناول شخصه يذهب هباءًا، إذ لا طائل من ورائه وهذا من تواضعه، وهو سمة شخصيته المتواضعة، لكننا نرى أنه لا بد من التعريف بشخصيته وحياته التي وقفها لخدمة الأمة والإنسانية جمعاء؛ لندرك ونلم بحركة كان هو الرائد الفكري لها.
