يقوم الباحث في هذا الكتاب بتقديم دراسة وافية عن ألمانيا و بالآخص فى حقلى الفلسفة والموسيقى الكلاسيكية. فينقسم الكتاب إلى جزئين يشتمل الأول منهما على تناول وشرح للفلسفة اليونانية والحديثة مبيناً عمالقة تلك الفلسفات من أقطاب الفلاسفة الألمان بدءاً من ليبنتز حتى هايدجر مروراً بنيتشه وكارل ماركس وشوبنهاور وهيجل. أما الجزء الثانى فيختص بالموسيقى فى العصر الكلاسيكى مقدماً خلفية عن هذا العصر وعن الحركة الرومانتيكية وأخيرا بعض المعلومات الموسيقية التى يصنع منها أساساً لبناء هذا الجزء من الكتاب يكمله بعرض للفرق الموسيقية ولأقطاب الموسيقى الألمان من باخ وبيتهوفن وحتى شومان ونيكولاى وفاجنر.
