تناول الكتاب عوامل بزوغ إمارة أبوظبي، لتصبح أهم إمارة على شاطىء الخليج من الناحية السياسية والاقتصادية. وبحث في تفاصيل السياسة البريطانية العامة، وصور التغيرات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية التي غيرت ملامح إمارة أبوظبي بسرده أنماط الاقتصاد التقليدي، وأساليب الحياة والمجتمع في هذه المنطقة.
