يشير مصطلح علم التربية إلى علم تنشئة الأطفال والبالغين، كما يشير أيضاً إلى الممارسة، إلى الفن الذي تجيده قلة بشكل حدسي، وهو فن يخضع لتحولات المجتمع والأحوال.
يعرض (أطلس علم التربية) تاريخ الأفكار التربوية منذ العصور القديمة وحتى يومنا هذا، ويتضمن أسس التربية مثل الأنثروبولوجيا أو علم النفس التطوري، أو النماذج والتوجهات النظرية مثل البحث الجندري أو التداخل الثقافي مع التربية. هذا إلى جانب المناهج المستعملة في علم التربية، بالإضافة إلى عرض التربية الإجتماعية والتربية الخاصة أو تكوين البالغين.
