في رواية (الحب والرصاص) يتخذ "بدر الحاج" من الخطاب الموجه إلى حبيب غائب تقنية يغلق بها أحداث روايته، فتقوم على جدلية المتكلم/ المخاطب التي تقول حكاية أربعة شبان على خط الجبهة في صحراء "مؤتة" بدوا وهم يتهامسون بصوت خافت حول أوضاع البلاد وقضايا المجتمع وهموم الناس، ثم يتسل الحديث إلى حكايات شخصية، حيث يتحدث كل واحد من هؤلاء الشبان عن حبيبته التي خلفها ورائه تنتظر عودته.
تقوم الرواية على جدلية (المرأة والوطن) أيهما أهم في حياة الإنسان، يتمظهر ذلك في حديث مهند إحدى شخصيات الرواية موجهاً حواره إلى "أحمد" صديقه "حبان مؤلمان للإنسان. المرأة والوطن.. لا تصدق أنهما يعطيانك ما تستحق.. كلاهما قريب وكلاهما ظالم...". وبهذا الخطاب الروائي يصطنع الكاتب إطاراً خارجياً للأحداث، وقد صاغه على شكل خطاب إلى حبيب غائب، أو مفقود فيلبسه لبوس الاعترافات الداخلية والنجوى والحزن كلما تعرض واحد من هؤلاء الشبان إلى خيبات أمل في الحب، وعلى هذا الدرب تسير الرواية فتنتقل من إحباط إلى آخر، ومن قصة إلى أخرى حيث تتداخل العلاقات في الرواية وتتشابك في نسيج روائي يعبر عن حالة عشوائية تعيشها شخصيات الرواية جميعها تعيش عاطفة مثبطة لا تعرف ماذا تريد من الحياة. وهنا يلفت الروائي إلى حالة الانفتاح الذي تعيشه المجتمعات العربية على أكثر من صعيد...
