من أهم ما يختص به فسيولوجي الإنسان هو دراسة الأنسجة والأعضاء والأجهزة العضوية وآليات وظائف الجسم في الإنسان. والعلماء المتخصصين في فسيولوجي الإنسان يحاولون فهم طبيعة وكيميائية الآليات التي تقوم بتشغيل جسم الإنسان الحي على كل المستويات ... ولهذا الغرض يضع الدكتور مدحت حسين خليل محمد كتاباً متخصصاً يفيد منه طلاب العلم والأدباء يكشف من خلاله خمسة أهداف رئيسية هي:
الهدف الأول: وهو فهم الأساس الحيوي والأسس الكيميائية التي تحدث في الإنسان ككائن حي، وهذا الجزء يرتبط أيضاً بمناقشة أسس علوم الحياة والطريقة والتفكير النقدي الفاحص، أما الهدف الثاني فهو إيضاح ودراسة الخلايا من الناحيتين التركيبية والوظيفية وموائمة التركيب مع الوظيفة، والإشارة إلى عملية انقسام الخلايا، ووراثة الخلية، مع الإشارة إلى الهندسة الوراثية. والهدف الثالث: هو معرفة وإيضاح التركيب والوظيفة في الإنسان بما يعني إيضاح كيفية تشغيل أجهزة الجسم الرئيسية والتوازن الداخلي كآليات حيوية فيما بينها. والهدف الرابع: هو دراسة التناسل والتطور وفي هذا المضمار، كما يناقش "التواصلية في الحياة" Evolution وتركيب ووظيفة الأجهزة التناسلية مع شرح وافي لعملية الإخصاب وتطور "الزيجوت" أثناء فترة الحمل حتى يصبح مولود جديد. ويأتي الهدف الخامس والأخير ليسلط الضوء على الأسس الرئيسية لعلوم البيئة ودراسة النظم البيئية. وفي نهاية هذا المرجع يضع المؤلف شرحاً باللغة العربية لبعض الكلمات والمصطلحات الإنجليزية الخاصة بعلم فسيولوجي الإنسان.
يتوزع الكتاب على عشرين فصلاً يتناول فيها المؤلف كيمياء مكونات الجسم، وتصنيف الجزئيات العضوية، والطاقة وعمليات البناء والهدم الخلوي، والأحماض النووية وتخليق البروتين، والخلية، وعملية مرور الجزئيات عبر أغشية الخلايا، والجهاز البولي، والجهاز الهضمي، وعلم المناعة ... ووظائف أخرى بفسيولوجي الإنسان.
