تهدف هذه الرواية بأحداثها وحواراتها مع بعض كبار قادة الاستكبار والاستبداد في التاريخ إلى هدفين كبيرين، كلاهما له علاقة بالسلام وبتحقيقه في الواقع النفسي والاجتماعي والسياسي: أولهما: بيان خطورة الاستكبار، ومنافاته لعوالم السلام الجميلة، فالمستكبر عدو نفسه قبل أن يكون عدوا للمجتمع أو للرعية التي ولي عليها صغيرة كانت أو كبيرة.. ولذلك حاولنا في الرواية أن نصور بعض تلك الآلام التي يشعر بها المستكبر عندما يخلع كفن جسده، ويلبس الثوب الذي يمثل حقيقته.. وقد استوحينا صور تلك الآلام من خلال ما ورد في الروايات من تجسد الأعمال وتحولها إلى حقيقتها الملكوتية الممتلئة بالألم.
ثانيهما: بيان خطورة السكوت على الاستكبار وعدم مواجهته، واعتبرنا ذلك ـ كما دلت عليه النصوص المقدسة ـ صناعة للاستكبار وتقوية له، كما قال تعالى: ﴿ فَاسْتَخَفَّ قَوْمَهُ فَأَطَاعُوهُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْماً فَاسِقِينَ﴾ (الزخرف:54).. ولذلك حاولنا أن نجسد بعض مشاهد الأولياء والصالحين الذين وقفوا في وجوه طغاة زمانهم، وبينا بعض أنواع النعيم والسلام الذي يعيشونه في مقابل الآلام التي يعيشها المستكبرون.
وقد اخترنا لتحقيق هذين الهدفين سبعة من كبار أعلام الاستكبار في التاريخ، كل منهم يمثل جانبا أو جوانب منه.
