لم تدرس القصة القصيرة بين 1960- 1975 دراسة متكاملة، ولم نعثر على كتاب متخصص يبحث في إتجاهات القصة الحديثة في هذه السنوات الخمس عشرة، على الرغم من هذا النتاج القصصي الوفير في أدبنا الحديث الذي يستوجب الدراسة المستقلة للتعرف على أدباء القصة الجدد، وعلى تيارات القصة الحديثة التي شاعت في كتاباتهم في هذه الفترة.
من هنا، أصبحت الحاجة ملحة لدراسة فن القصة الحديثة، ومحاولة تحديد تياراتها المختلفة، وإستشراف مستقبلها بين هذه التيارات الكثيرة التي تتوالى عليها.
ولقد وجدنا أن القصة القصيرة بعد الستينات إلى يومنا هذا، قد تطورت وتنوعت واكتسبت أشكالاً حديثة ومفاهيم جديدة جعلتها تختلف إختلافاً كلياً عن القصة القصيرة قبل هذه الفترة، فالقصة الجديدة أو القصة المعاصرة قد تشكلت تشكلاً جديداً على أيدي أدباء الستينات، وأصبحت تعكس مواقف حضارية مختلفة بأساليب حديثة وتقنيات جديدة لم تعرفها القصة من قبل، وأثبت الأدباء المحدثون في هذه الفترة.
ومن خلال هذا الخضم القصصي الضخم، إن القصة القصيرة في تطور وتقدم مستمرين سريعين، فأنتقلوا بسرعة من مرحلة التجريب والمحاولة إلى مرحلة الإبداع والتمكن.
لذلك كان علينا أن نرصد حركة التطور التي مرت بها القصة القصيرة ومراحل إنتقالها من التقليدية والواقعية إلى التعبيرية والتجريدية ثم إلى المحاولات الجديدة في اللامعقول والعبث، وذلك من خلال تجارب الأدباء الجدد - بعد الستينات - ومن خلال تطور الأدباء المخضرمين ومراحلهم الفنية، الذين انتقلوا من القصة التقليدية واندمجوا في القصة الحديثة وألفوا في معظم إتجاهاتها المعاصرة.
وعليه، تسعى هذه الدراسة أن تكون نقطة إنطلاق وتعريف وتمهيد للدارسين لمزيد من البحث في فن القصة الحديث، وأساليبه الفنية المختلفة، لكي يقوموا بدور إيجابي في تقنين هذا الفن وبلورته وتقريبه إلى الأذهان.
