يمكنك أن تسافر عبر الزمن، ولكن لا يفترض أن تتجاوز الوقت الذي سيبرد خلاله فنجان القهوة، ما تقدّم هو شائعة متداولة عن أحد المقاهي في طوكيو، وتفاصيل الشائعة أن مَن يجلس على كرسي محدد فيه يمكنه أن يسافر عبر الزمن سواء الماضي منه أو المستقبل، اسم المقهى هو فينكولا، ولكن السفر عبر الزمن له أربعة شروط:
• لا يمكن مقابلة سوى الأشخاص الذين سبق لهم أن زاروا المقهى.
• لا يمكن أن يؤثر السفر عبر الزمن على الوضع في الوقت الحالي.
• لا يمكن إجبار من يجلس على الكرسي على تركه، فعندما ينهض الجالس يمكن لأي شخص يريد السفر أن يجلس مكانه.
• يبدأ السفر عبر الزمن بمجرد سكب القهوة وينتهي بمجرد أن تبرد. بالرغم من هذه القواعد الأربعة يشعر الناس بالفضول لزيارة المقهى.
تعرض رواية "قبل أن تشرب القهوة" للكاتب توشيكازو كواغوشي لأربع حالات قرر فيها أربعة أشخاص السفر عبر الزمن:
•عاشقان: امرأة تركت عشيقها يسافر ويبتعد عنها فندمت وقررت السفر عبر الزمن.
• زوجان: أصيب الرجل بالزهايمر ونسي زوجته فتُقرّر الزوجة السفر عبر الزمن لتستوضح منه أمراً.
• أختان: قُتلت الأخت الصغرى في حادث سيارة فقررت الأخت الكبرى زيارتها.
• أم ووليدها: وهي قصة أم حامل مريضة تخشى على مستقبل حملها. إن النظرة الرقيقة لكواغوشي والتي يتعامل وفقها مع جمال الأشياء العابرة، تجعل من قراءة هذا العمل رحلة مؤثرة تغمرنا بعمق بالرغبة في التمسك بالماضي. إن هذه الرواية الغريبة ستحرك كثيراً من الأشياء الكامنة في نفوس القراء.
