يندرج كتاب «تاج العروس الحاوي لتهذيب النفوس» ضمن مجموعة مؤلفات ابن عطاء الله السكندري التي حرص من خلالها على تبصير الناس بأمراض النفوس، وإرشادهم إلى كيفية معالجتها، والأخذ بأيديهم لما فيه تزكيتها والارتقاء بها إلى حضرة ربهم عزّ وجلّ. وعلى نفس منوال «الحكم العطائية» يأتي «تاج العروس» حاويا لمجموعة متوالية من التوجيهات الإرشادية والمواعظ التربوية، يشخص من خلالها ابن عطاء الله أمراض النفوس المختلفة، واصفا الدواء، ومبينا لكيفية التداوي، مدرجا أحيانا بعضًا مما جاء في «الحكم»، وبعضا مما جاء في كتابه «التنوير في إسقاط التدبير»، وذلك حسبما تدعو إليه الحاجة، حرصًا منه - رضي الله عنه - على استيفاء التشخيص واكتمال المعالجة.
