الكتاب مكون من جزئين يحتوى كل جزء منهما على مجموعة من القصص جميعها مستوحاة من التراث الشعبي الليبي الذي كان يدور بين مختلف الطبقات الإجتماعية، وتناقلته الناس بينهم في مختلف الأوساط، باعتباره صدى للتفكير الذي كان الناس يستلهمونه، وكان في الوقت نفسه تعبيراً عما كانوا يطمحون إليه من رغبات يريدون تحقيقها، وهذه القصص فيض كبير يجد فيه كل قارئ ومتأمل ودارس ما لا يجده غيره، لأن هذه القصص في حقيقتها تراث بكل ما تحويه هذه الكلمات من معنى.
