كبر مايكل باحاسيسه هذه من مؤسسة للرعاية على حساب الدولة، بعيدا عن أمه التى كانت تزوره بين الحين والحين حاملة له الحلوى وبعضا من فاتر العواطف.
وعندما تخرج مايكل من المؤسسة عمل بستانيا فى الحدائق العامة، ليكسب قوته فى ظل ظروف معيشية صعبة، وحروب داخلية طاحنة، لكنه يقرر فجأة ترك العمل ليصحب أمه المريضة، التى أصبحت لا تستطيع مواصلة عملها فى خدمة إحدى الأسر، فى رحلتها إلى الريف مسقط رأسها، وهنا يكتشف أنه لكى يرحل عليه الحصول على تصريح من الشرطة، وعندما لم تستطع يقرر أن يسلك طريقا وسط الغابات مسافرا على قدميه حاملا أمه على عربة يدفعها أمامه، ليواجه العواصف والأمطار طالما تردد داخله: لماذا أتى إلى هذه الدنيا؟
هل ليواصل رحلة الهروب من الناس ومن نفسه.. أم ليصل بأمه إلى بر الأمان مسقط رأسها..؟
