لقد أدرك المسلمون الأوائل عظم شأن القرآن الكريم، وأهميته البالغة في تنظيم حياتهم وتقويم أخلاقهم، وتهذيب سلوكهم، ومن ثم فقد اهتموا به اهتماماً كبيراً. وقام علماء الإسلام-عبر العصور-على إحاطته بكل أسباب الرعاية والعناية من جميع الجوانب، وكان أبرز شيء من هذه الرعاية هو القراءات المتواترة. والكتاب الذي بين أيدينا، كتاب عظيم النفع والفائدة، وهو في القراءات السبع. وقد اتبع المؤلف منهجاً فريداً رائعاً في عرض هذا المختصر القيم في هذه القراءات، بحيث يصل الطالب للمعلومة في أقرب وقت دون الدخول في خلافات فرعية. وقد بدأ المؤلف كتابه بمقدمة أظهرت معظم المنهج الذي اتبعه، ثم أتبع ذلك بترجمة مختصرة لرجال القراءات السبع وشيوخهم وبلدانهم، ثم عرض المؤلف أبواب كتابه وبدأ بمقدمة طويلة لا بد منها قبل الشروع في فرش الحروف، كالاستعاذة والتسمية والمدود والهمزات وغيرها، ثم تناول فرش الحروف به سور القرآن الكريم كاملة، فإذا عرض لشيء ورد في المقدمة أشار إليه في موضعه ولم يكرره.
وقد اتبع المؤلف أسلوب الاختصار غير المخل، أي اختصار هادف، فإذا أراد الكلام عن نافع، وابن كثير، قال الحرميان، وإذا أراد الكلام عن عاصم، وحمزة والكسائي، قال قرأ الكوفيون يعني حال اتفاقهم، وهذا من باب التيسير على المبتدئين ولتعم الفائدة. وأما المحقق فقد قام بترجمة للمؤلف مع ترجمة مختصرة للقراء السبعة ورواتهم، مع تقديم بعض المباحث الهامة التي لا بد لطالب العلم من الإلمام بها قبل الشروع في تعلم القراءات السبع. وجعل الأبواب مرتبة بترقيم عام، مع تخريج بعض الآيات القرآنية وذكر لبعض القواعد النحوية لبعض الكلمات إذا اقتضى الأمر ومن ثم الاستدلال على القواعد الواردة في القراءات السبع بما يناسبها من أبيات الشاطبية التي تعد قانوناً في القراءات السبع.
