وما يؤخذ علىالمدوّنات التاريخية عمومًا، وكذلك كتب التراجم، افتقارها إلىالتحليل وربط الأحداث ببعضها وبالظروف الموضوعية المحيطة، ما يحرم القارئ من فهم تلكم الأحداث والتعمّق في مجرياتها واستيعابها بصورة أكثر شمولية. الأمر الذي يوقف الباحث أمام مبعثرات ومتفرّقات يحاول أن يلمّ شتاتها، وأن يوفّق بينها إن ساعده التوفيق.
وأمام مفارقات ونقائض يحاول أن يمحّصها نقدًا وأن يقيسها منطقيًّا في إطار منهجه في البحث، وفي النهاية أمام نتائج تاريخية لا تعطيها الحادثة مستقلةً يجهد في تعرّفها وفي استنتاجها في ضوء مجموعة الحوادث ككل، وفي إطار ظروفها وملابساتها.
وهي الملحوظة التي تنبّه إليها مبكّرًا الدكتور المخزومي عندما نشر ترجماته لمجموعة من أعلام النحاة، في سلسلة من المقالات بعنوان: «مِن سِيَرِ المشاهير»، بمجلّة «المعلِّم الجديد»، التي كانت تصدرها وزارة التربية العراقية في منتصف خمسينيَّات القرن الميلادي الماضي، وجمعها لاحقًا في كتابه هذا الذي نقدِّم لنشره وإحيائه من جديد.
والدكتور المخزومي لا يكتفي بتوجيه النقد إلىمصنّفات الترجمة النحوية، وإنما يرسم منهجًا جديدًا في أدب الترجمة، يقوم علىتتبّع أبرز الأحداث التي مرّ بها صاحب الترجمة، مع ربط واضح بينها، وكذلك بينها وبين الظروف الموضوعية التي عاشها المترجَم.
